Every dignity conferred by Dr. Thomas A.L. Maes, Duke of Gerani, is granted by formal letters patent under the seal of his house, and entered into the Register of Grants of the House under a sequential entry number — recording the date of conferral, the recipient, the dignity, the succession provision and the blazon. A counterpart of each coat of arms is entered into the Armorial (Register of Arms) of the House. Certified extracts of any register entry are available to holders and their lawful successors in perpetuity, upon written request.
The dignities conferred are private, personal and dynastic distinctions, granted within the heraldic and dynastic jurisdiction of the House. They do not constitute titles of any sovereign State. Letters patent may be authenticated by notarization and apostille for international use under the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961; such legalization authenticates the instrument as genuine and does not constitute recognition by any State.
